Communication Generation

Introduction

Technology has played a big part in how we communicate. It continues to change and evolve as the years go by.  

Every generation has adapted their own way of communicating. This WebQuest  is asking you to use your own ideas and the information you have learned in class about communication. 

Think about how you communicate everyday and which form of communication you rely on the most. 

You will need to think about the reasons and circumstances that can change the way Baby Boomers,    Gen Y and Millennials chose to communicate. 

Questions to Answer:

1. Why do so many people in the Millennial group prefer text messages over phone calls?

2. Using your own thoughts, which generation do you relate to the most? Why?

3. Using the "phone vs text vs Email" web page, explain the situations that may be the reason for the results in the section, "what type of person are you"? 

4. What is the 'Communication Accommodation Theory"? Provide a brief history of this theory. 

5. Use the Venn Diagram Template in the 'Process' Tab to show the similarities and differences between Baby boomer communication and Gen Y communication. Use the 'phone v text v email' document. 

You will answer questions in the form of a word document, your Venn Diagram will be included and needs to be hand drawn to fit in the amount of points you want to include.

Conclusion

Communication is inevitable. We all have to communicate with someone or something. Humans have evolved over many centuries and as a result, we have created new, efficient and more accurate ways to communicate. 

In your Society and Culture Syllabus, intercultural communication is a topic that can explain the communication trends, issues and changes between cultures. in society we live amongst those who have grown up in a different generation to our to own. Understanding their preferences of communication make us more equipped in helping them adjust to new forms of communication.

  This WebQuest creates another level of understanding about human communication, more specifically, across generations.
